Traditionally successful organisations have celebrated 'heroic leadership', whereby the character and more importantly the charisma of the leader leading in a semi autocratic way has been successful for organisations. It is more often than not the leader that is celebrated for thier success rather than the organisation.
However society and healthcare is changing, successful healthcare organisations need more than simply a focus on the leader but a leadership approach that develops distributed leadership; this means a bottom up approach of staff engagement, purpose and influence that gets quality improvement outcomes and greater organisational productivity and job satisfaction underpinned by respect for people.
The workshop will explore the benefits of moving to investing in leadership at every level and the challenges of giving and accepting autonomy
